1959
A young Lebanese man arrives in Bauru.

1959–1985Moussa Tobias was born in Lebanon in 1940 and studied at a school run by French priests.
In Bauru were his brothers Ibrahim and Edmundo and his sister Moura, who ran a haberdashery business. Moussa went to join them.
He started as a peddler. He sold socks, one pair at a time.
Later, he set up Têxtil Everest, on Rua Araújo Leite.
He married Wanda Pontin on February 13, 1966, and they had three children. He liked Western films, Caetano Veloso, Roberto Carlos and a good Cuban cigar.
Moussa also entered public life.
In 1978, he ran for deputy mayor of Bauru on Roberto Purini's ticket. From 1983 to 1985, he presided over COHAB-Bauru and the PMDB.

1986
From peddler to factory.
In 1986, Sukest was born. Powdered drink mix, in Bauru.
Bauru knew Moussa for much more than the factory.
In 1992, he was elected deputy mayor. In November, he received the title of Citizen of Bauru.
Throughout his life, he was a board member of Bauru Tênis Clube, Noroeste, the Hospital Association, Clube Monte Líbano and Ciesp.

1994–1999In the 1990s, the press already described Sukest as the second-largest powdered juice factory in the country.
From powdered drink mix, the company moved into gelatin and bubble gum.
US$ 3.5 million in machinery
In a report from the early years of the Plano Real, Sukest appears as the second-largest powdered fruit juice factory in the country, with 270 employees, and as the company that was starting to make bubble gum.
Moussa Tobias invested US$ 3.5 million in machines and equipment, part of it bought from a company in Rio de Janeiro. The machines made up to 750 pieces of gum per minute.
1994
In 1994, deputy mayor Moussa Tobias ran the city government for 19 days.

He spoke of the mix of joy, dignity and responsibility in taking the post on an interim basis, and of the democratic character of a society that brings an immigrant to power. Another line from the speech: “Brazilian society is democratic through its acts.”

Spin became a bubble gum with Batman.
The launch was tied to the film Batman Forever, licensed by DC Comics and Warner Bros. The idea of linking the product to the film was Venicius's.
But Spin was never just a bubble gum. It was a collection.
With each launch, a new group of characters from movies, TV and cartoons. Each box brought stickers, tattoos or cards for kids to complete, and Sukest prepared displays, posters and stickers to take the novelty to the point of sale.

1996–1998
In December 1996, Moussa left public life and devoted himself to his brother Pedro Tobias's run for the State Legislative Assembly.
Open-handed brother
The column tells a story from 1998, days after his brother Pedro Tobias was elected to his first term as state deputy. Moussa was strolling along the Calçadão da Batista with his friend Raduan Trabulsi when a man asked him for money, calling him Pedro.
— I'm not Pedro. I'm Moussa, his brother.
Even so, he took a R$ 10 note out of his pocket and handed it over. The man thanked him and remarked:
— You must really be Moussa, because the most Dr. Pedro ever gave me was a R$ 1.00 note.

2003
December 26, 2003.
Moussa Tobias died at 63. The wake, at the City Council, brought together leaders from every party. The mayor decreed three days of official mourning. He was buried on the 27th, at Cemitério da Saudade.

The wreaths sent to the City Council filled every corridor of the building, and a box truck was needed to carry them. Politicians of every leaning attended the wake and the burial at Cemitério da Saudade.

2004: coated gum.
The coated gum line took 28 months of design and more than US$ 5 million. The machines came from Italy, Germany and France. According to the press at the time, only three companies in the world mastered this technology.

On May 30, 2004, the Moussa Nakhl Tobias Community Center was inaugurated in Núcleo Habitacional Bauru XVI, in Bauru.
Also in 2004, Arco (Associação Rural do Centro Oeste) inaugurated Praça Moussa Tobias, a posthumous tribute, at Recinto Mello Moraes in Bauru.

The inauguration ceremony of the square was scheduled for 7 p.m.
Sukest was not just in Bauru. It was part of Bauru.
In 2004, Sukest began supporting the city's basketball.
In February 2005, it renewed the sponsorship as master quota, alongside Plasútil, and the team became Plasútil-Sukest Bauru. Games on ESPN Brasil. An unprecedented runner-up finish at the Torneio Novo Milênio. At the contract signing, Venicius said the goal was to take sport to every layer of the population.

2006
On June 21, 2006, the Moussa N. Tobias Health Center was inaugurated in Agudos.
“On behalf of our family, we are immensely grateful for the initiative and for the remembrance by our friends in Agudos of our dear brother Moussa, who was an honorable man, an exemplary citizen and who became unforgettable to the society of Bauru and the region.”

Built with R$ 350,000 in funds, the clinic was opened to serve about 1,200 families in Chácara Avato, Jardim Vienense and neighboring districts.

2007
On January 30, 2007, the Bauru-Arealva State Airport was named Moussa Nakhl Tobias (Law No. 12,542).

3 years
Turning brigadeiro into bubble gum was hard work.
It took three years of food engineering research. The biggest challenge was taming the bitterness that chocolate gives the gum base.
Festball Brigadeiro reached the market in late July 2007. There was nothing like it in Brazil.
